An each-way bet is two bets: half the stake on the win, half on the place. The place half is paid at a fraction of the win odds (the “place terms”, e.g. ¼ or ⅕) if your selection finishes in the places. If it wins you get both halves; if it only places you get the place half (plus its stake back); if it is unplaced you get nothing.
