Fill in a date or two and the countdowns appear. A car with no MOT is also automatically uninsured in the UK, which is the detail that turns an oversight into a serious problem.

Notes on the rules used here

In Great Britain a car needs its first MOT three years after it was first registered, and every year after that. You can have the test up to a month (minus a day) before it expires and keep the anniversary date, which is worth doing rather than drifting a day later every year. Northern Ireland differs: the first test is at four years. Driving without a valid MOT is an offence and invalidates your insurance.

Tyre tread is legal down to 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters, but that is a legal floor, not a safety recommendation. Widely quoted MIRA braking tests found stopping distances in the wet from 50 mph rising from roughly 26 m on new tyres to about 32 m at 3 mm and about 40 m at 1.6 mm — results vary considerably by tyre, but the direction is not in doubt. Most fitters advise replacing at 3 mm.
