Everything is measured against your device clock, so the countdown keeps working offline. Days, hours, minutes and seconds are the plain difference between now and your target, broken down largest unit first — a target 26 hours away reads 1 day, 2 hours, not 26 hours. Once the moment passes the same panel flips to counting upwards, so a countdown never just stops dead.
Working days counts whole calendar days between today and the target, dropping Saturdays and Sundays and any dates you list as days off. It is a calendar count, not an employer's holiday entitlement — if you are working out notice periods or leave, double-check against your contract.
The progress bar needs a start date; without one there is nothing to measure against. Saved countdowns are written to this browser's local storage, so clearing your browsing data removes them. No network request is made at any point.
