Master rounding rules and quick estimation. Round any number to a chosen place, then estimate answers to real-life word problems with 5-round quizzes and full working.
The rules
• Look at the digit one place to the right of where you’re rounding.
• 0–4 → round down (keep the digit). 5–9 → round up (add 1).
• 5 rounds up because the halfway value belongs to the bigger side.
• Estimate first: 187 × 42 ≈ 200 × 40 = 8,000. Exact: 7,854 — close enough to check your work.
• Money: £3.72 + £2.49 ≈ £4 + £2.50 = £6.50 (rough check: exact = £6.21).
