💊 Fish Medication Dosing

💊 Fish Medication Dosing

Identify fish ailments by symptom and calculate precision medication dosages based on true net water volume. Includes invertebrate toxicity warnings and scaleless fish safety flags.

Ich / White Spot Disease (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis) Extremely Contagious
Ciliated protozoan parasite burrowing beneath the fish's mucosal slime coat. Medication only kills free-swimming theronts, not the trophonts on the fish. Gradually raise tank temperature to 28°C–30°C (82°F–86°F) to accelerate the life cycle.
🩺 Prescribed Medication Treatment Regimen
Primary Treatment
Ich-X / Formalin + Malachite Green
10.0 mL daily
After 30% water change daily
Aquarium Salt (NaCl) Tonic
Level 2 Parasitic Dose
6.5 Tablespoons
(~98 grams non-iodized salt)
Treatment Duration
7–10 Days
Continue 3 days past last spot
🛡️ The 3 Golden Medication Safety Rules
  • Remove Activated Carbon / Purigen: Chemical media absorbs medications from water within hours, completely rendering treatments useless.
  • Increase Surface Aeration: Formalin, Malachite Green, and elevated temperatures severely deplete dissolved oxygen. Run an air stone on full blast.
  • Never Mix Medications blindly: Never dose copper and formalin together, as their combined toxicity paralyzes fish gill lamellae.
