🗺️ MostUsefulMaps — Distance & Place Finder

The site's own map, right here in the card. Drop two points — a town name, a coordinate pair, a Plus Code, a UK grid reference, a UTM coordinate, a Maidenhead locator or a geohash — and get the geodesic distance on the WGS84 ellipsoid, the initial bearing, and the codes for each end: the Plus Code, the geohash, the Maidenhead locator and the UTM coordinate. Everything is computed on your device from data shipped with the page, so it works with the network switched off. The full map adds live OpenStreetMap streets, vehicle-aware driving routes with the signed speed limits along them, live traffic where a free feed exists, weather at the time you will be there, turn-by-turn guidance that keeps working with no signal, measuring, elevation and sun times.

Distances are geodesic (Vincenty on WGS84) — the same figure a surveyor's GNSS software reports, not a flat-map approximation. Geohash, Maidenhead locators and UTM are worked out on your device too — the full map shows them for any point you click, with the OS grid reference and every other format. Road distance, live streets and turn-by-turn directions are on MostUsefulMaps, built on OpenStreetMap data with no API keys and no account. Offline map: Natural Earth (public domain). Places: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0). Coordinate maths: on this device.
