BODMAS (or BIDMAS — the same thing)
1. Brackets — work inside ( ) first.
2. Orders / Indices — powers like 2³ before multiplying.
3. Division and Multiplication — left to right, equal weight.
4. Addition and Subtraction — left to right, equal weight.
Use × and ÷ or * and / — both work. Write 2 × (3 + 1), not 2(3 + 1).

Why it matters: 2 + 3 × 4 is 14, not 20. If you multiply first, the answer is 14; left-to-right blindly gives the wrong answer — this is the single most common maths slip in school exams.
